Jimmy the Guinea & Thieves Household Cleaner

Jimmy

You’re probably wondering what on earth this has to do with essential oils…well let me bring this full circle. Since Jimmy joined our family a couple of years ago, we’ve had to clean his cage every couple of weeks, and the cleaner of choice is Thieves Household Cleaner. It is awesome! Totally safe and great for pets and people alike. We clean everything with this stuff, toilets, showers, sinks, mirrors, grease, toys, floors, guinea pig cages, etc. It is pretty amazing and super concentrated so a bottle lasts you a long time!

Jimmy Hiding

I also use the Thieves Foaming Hand Soap like a madwoman. I have it at every sink in my house and I have it at my toy store in the bathroom too, it is pretty incredible stuff! Keeps us nice and disinfected without using anti-bacterial soap.

So if this household cleaner is safe enough for Jimmy and of course these two cutie cakes…

Simon and Gus

I highly recommend it to you and yours!

Happy Cleaning, Happy Pets, Happy Kids, Happy Mama!

Back To School Oils

First Day of School

It is that time of year again! Here are some oils that we are equipped with for Back to School and of course cold/flu season. In fact I never run out of these oils – they seem to be life savers around our house. It seems to be inevitable that a cold or some sort of illness will present itself in the first month, but in order to be prepared for that illness or possibly avoid it completely we have a short list of oils and vitamins that we use at our house.

First Grade Preschool

Simon is in First Grade, I cannot believe it and Gus is in Preschool! So we have two babies that aren’t really babies anymore. The oils I’ll list I use with both of my kids as well as my husband and myself.

One other thing that I’m never without is Emergen-C. I feel like this product is such a lifesaver, that I almost always use it in combination with my oils. Echinacea is also at the very tippy top of my list. Now for the oils….

Thieves – (of course) it is amazing for fighting viruses and infections. It is a great preventative tool as well as an oil that we use after we come down with something, to shorten the length and lessen the symptoms of whatever we’ve contracted.

RC – respiratory care is important…nearly every time a cold is caught – a cough follows. This is great to put in a humidifier and to rub right on chests and diffuse, it is a blend of oils that work amazingly together to alleviate respiratory discomfort.

Peppermint – comes in handy for the sniffles – we diffuse it like crazy whenever anyone starts to feel stuffy. It is also our fever killer – if we don’t want a fever a bit on the bottom of the feet and it falls. I also love this oil for upset tummies and nausea.

Eucalyptus Radiata – even though there is eucalyptus in RC I find this oil very beneficial for respiratory stuff and colds and stuffy heads. I diffuse it and put it neat on chests. I also like to put this one in the humidifier pot.

Frankincense – is awesome for aches and pains and when all else fails I pretty much always use this oil. It deepens breathing and is great for respiratory problems. It is great for such a long list of things I don’t even know where to begin, but I use it often for fevers and aches during cold and flu season.

Oregano – is another must have, it is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and a great oil to use in place of Thieves on your Thieves ‘days off’. I use this oil on bottoms of feet and diffuse it – not because I love the smell but I love the benefits!

Melrose – I use for infections – especially ear infections. Great to rub on your neck below the troublesome ear.

Roman Chamomile – is another must have for aches and pains and this oil is very kid friendly! It is soothing and comforting and works wonders!

We of course are always using all of our other oils that come in the Everyday Oils kit, we drink Lemon all of the time, we use Lavender always and Purification for boo boos. I think the oils listed above are must haves for our family and they really help to keep us healthy!

Oregano for September

Oregano

I’m sort of surprised I haven’t talked about this oil yet, but I’m pretty excited because it is a perfect oil for back to school and amazing for cold and flu season! We’ve used this oil in our house for a long list of things…so I’ll try and recap and share.

One of my kiddos has some warts on the bottom of one of his feet and one on his finger, so we’ve been applying Oregano daily (you have to do it daily for it to actually work) to get rid of his warts. Since this oil is a hot oil I have found it is best when applied on the bottom of the feet, at least with kids.
This oil comes in the Raindrop Kit and is powerful anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-parasitic, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and it is a great immune stimulant. It is a must have for colds. I tend to gravitate toward a lot of the oils in the Raindrop Technique Kit when we have a virus making its way around our house. This oil is also found in ImmuPower, which is a good oil for immune protection too. This oil is very powerful, so it might be a good idea to dilute it before application. Dilute with V-6 or olive oil (something edible).

This oil is amazing for colds. I rub it on Simon’s and Gussy’s feet when they have colds. I actually mix with olive oil or V-6 and put along Shane’s spine when he has a cold and ask him to do the same for me. It can also be diffused to kill airborne bacteria. It has a very strong smell to it, one that I’m not fond of but I tolerate because it really works for us. Shane hasn’t ever seemed to mind the smell – he always tells us we smell like gyros or pizza after we use this oil.

This oil is great for asthma, bronchitis, rheumatism and whooping cough.

It is a great alternative to Thieves oil – which shouldn’t be used daily as a cold/flu preventative – so maybe use Thieves for a couple of days and swap out with Oregano for a day…and repeat. I still love my Thieves more than Oregano (I’m pretty sure it is mostly a smell preference for me.).

Oregano may also be used to enhance the flavor of food, but remember it is very potent so you don’t need much at all, touch a toothpick in your oil and mix it in your dish, you most likely don’t even need a full drop. This oil is distilled from the leaves of Oregano.

I’ll keep it short and sweet and let you all know that the Essential 7 promotion has been extended until Sept 15th so if you didn’t get the chance to get your free Essential 7 you have another shot at it, just place your order of 195PV or more by the 15th at midnight.

Tentative Plan – to be confirmed soon: Discussion Group will be held from 7-9 on Thursday, September 23rd at Walking Stick Toys/Nature Boy and we will be discussing Immune Boosting Oils and whatever the attendees would like to share!

Happy Back to School time and a new oil of the month will be presented in the fall – seems strange that fall is so close already our fun summer flew right on by!

Antibiotic Alternative

In our over-medicated society it isn’t unheard of to be completely immune to a prescribed anti-biotic. Doctors are often times quick to prescribe something rather than letting the body naturally heal. Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils can be a real boost to the system and precisely what your body needs to heal itself.

Here is a recipe I recently came across that you can make yourself. You’ll need a few oils some empty gelcaps – contact me if you’d like me to order them for you. You can fill your capsule with the following to make your very own anti-biotic.

10 drops Thieves Essential Oil
4 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
2-4 drops Oregano Essential Oil

As usual I speak only of  my experiences using Young Living Essential Oils, if you are using other oils you’ll want to make sure they are safe to take internally. And – this isn’t information that is approved by the FDA. Everything you’ll read about on Mama Loves Oils is just from experiences I’ve had with my personal health and in my family. I’m not a doctor! And none of this is medical advice!

Happy Oiling! Happy Healing. Stock up on oils for the school year – quickly approaching. I always have some Thieves and Oregano in my cabinet this time of year!

Awhile back I did a series of posts on this very subject but I just caught wind of another slew of data that might be helpful. Abundant Health has a helpful section – Essential Oil Care for Pregnancy and Motherhood that can be a wonderful resource.

Make sure you reference my First Aid Kit post for other needs (outside of pregnancy).

Sacred Frankincense for August

frankincense tree

Since we just learned so much at discussion group on Thurs. I thought I would share information about this incredible oil with you. It is meant to be used in conjunction with your Frankincense that comes in the starter kit from the Boswellia carteri tree. The Sacred Frankincense is distilled from the Boswellia sacra trees at the Young Living distillery in Oman. This is pretty incredible in itself as no Omani frankincense has ever left the country unless directly purchased by Saudi royals.

Frankincense
Frankincense is an oil that I’ve spoken of before. It has so many amazing benefits it would be completely impossible to list them all.

You can visit www.pubmed.com or .gov and type in Frankincense to see over 200 results of how Frankincense Essential Oil has worked to treat different things…the list is long and includes cancer, asthma, skin cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s Disease, fibromyalgia, etc. This information is not published by Young Living – it is government based – I know it is sometimes nice to see different perspectives (even from people outside of Young Living) so to read about it for hours and hours you can visit this site. heh.

Now for my Frankincense info – first off Frankincense is an oil that I use freely with my kids. I’ll tell a quick story that I hate – some of you may have already heard it – Frankincense was a tool I used when Simon (my oldest baby) got his MMR vaccination. He ended up having a reaction to the immunization. Pain in arms and legs (tingles) and then he was kind of a in a zone by the time we got home. He was barely moving – so I put him in the bathtub since he started to spike a fever at that point. I put Peppermint on his feet and Frankincense all over his chest and back and neck (as this oil is a good oil for pain). He started projectile vomiting in the bathtub and then remained in a state where he seemed “out of touch” until the next morning when he seemed to be doing a lot better. It rocked his world and that particular oil seemed to be the ticket. I continued to apply both Peppermint to his feet (to pull out the fever – or at least keep it at a level that wasn’t dangerous) and then the Frankincense just to help him through.

  • I use it when anyone in our house has any sort of flu/cold (stuffy nose) congestion as it is a great oxygenating oil and deepens breathing.
  • It is a wonderful oil for breast care. It is anti-tumorous so should be used daily as a preventative. It is wonderful for woman’s health. It will definitely be an oil on my short list if I ever have to have a short list.
  • It is an amazing oil for teeth/gum health.
  • It is a wonderful oil for meditation and spiritual connection.
  • It is one of the only oils that is high in sesquiterpenes and is able to break the blood brain barrier, making it extremely effective.
  • This is a wonderful oil for birth and death. This oil can be used on the crown of a newborn to annoint and bless and can also be used during death. I used this oil on my Grandfather’s feet when he was dying. He also happened to have parkinson’s disease and it is an oil that is wonderful for that disease.

This info is from Anna – A component of frankincense, boswellic acid is poised to replace NSAIDs in the pharmaceutical industry in the next 10 years because of it’s profound anti inflammatory properties along with its ability to support the digestive system and liver. Clinical trials have shown amazing results on Frankincense’s effects on cancer, asthma, arthritis, and all inflammatory bowel diseases. These trials are being done in hospital and universities throughout the country. End.

The new Sacred Frankincense is $50 for a 5 ml bottle wholesale. Frankincense is $69.75 wholesale for a 15ml bottle. These oils paired with one another give you the ultimate Frankincense experience. If you don’t have one or the other of them talk to me for more info. You can even get Frankincense resin and a Frankincense burner from Young Living now. Check here for more info. But please contact me for ordering – you don’t want to pay retail prices if you don’t have to.

Resin Burner
As always if you need anything please let me know, my order goes on the 7th but we have orders going all month that can be added to, so you don’t have to wait a full month if you are out of something.

The promo for August is a great one! Spend 195 PV and get a free Essential 7 Kit – that includes a 5ml bottle of lavender, peppermint, lemon, Joy, PanAway,
Peace & Calming, and Purification. And Harmony Oil is 10% off this month but you still get the full PV if you are doing essential rewards.

I hope this finds everyone well and enjoying summer!

I apologize for not gettting my “oil of the month” out this month. My kids and I have been enjoying our peaceful summer (which I ended up telling someone yesterday isn’t quite as peaceful as I’d like for it to be).

Bug Spray

My Boys

As we all know bug sprays on the market can be scary and filled with toxic ingredients. There are several recipes out there that are wonderful alternatives to what you can buy at your local grocery store or drug store. We concocted something last night that we plan to put to the test in this buggy humid summer weather.

Of course you can always rely on your Purification and Eucalyptus Radiata and Lavender oils to be great insect repellents but if you’d like to concoct an essential oil filled bug spray of your own here is one option!

We used Valerie Worwood’s book as a reference.

We took a small spritzer bottle 15ml and used some distilled water, witch hazel (if you have it) or actually in place of the witch hazel we used vodka, and some therapeutic grade essential oils. We used Lemongrass, Lavender, Thyme, and Peppermint. In the 15ml bottle we used 4 drops of Lavender, 4 drops of Thyme, 4 drops of Peppermint and 8 drops of Lemongrass. I put two drops of vodka in each one and filled the rest of the bottle with distilled water.

Other great additions to this mix would be Purification and Eucalyptus as I mentioned earlier, and of course if you are in a bind you can always use these oils independently of one another for some protection. We have had great success with just Purification around our ankles in the summer time, even in WI at our cabin by the lake (mosquito heaven).

Happy Buggy Summer!
